THE STORY SO FAR

The first time I spent time alone in a desert, I had no idea why I was there. I was in the northwestern corner of Iceland, in the dead of winter & all I knew then was that I needed to use the precious three hours of sunlight I had each day to walk. I did this every single day, regardless of the storms, wind, & bone-chilling cold. I would arrive home each day just as the sun dipped behind the mountain, & the entire sky would be consumed by an indigo light. The imminent eighteen hours of darkness would soon follow. And yes, before you do the quick math & say, wait a second, 18+3 doesn’t = 24. That is because the breathtakingly beautiful deep indigo sky would linger for hours on either side of the darkness.
